Summary

What if taking care of yourself was the first step to helping your family thrive?

If you’ve parented long enough, then you’ve learned firsthand why your personal wellness matters。 You’ve felt the pain (or consequences) of devaluing yourself。 Whether your wake-up call came from a diagnosis, a breakdown, an issue with your child or spouse, anxiety, or simply feeling depleted and numb, it most likely unveiled this truth:

Mothers are humans too。 We require love, compassion, rest, and renewal。 Taking care of our needs strengthens us and equips us for the road ahead。

In More Than a Mom, bestselling author Kari Kampakis offers a practical, approachable, and attainable framework to stay on a healthy path。 You can take your kids only as far as you’ve come–and since their strength builds on your strength, you must take time to focus on you。 More Than a Mom is about unleashing God’s power in your life and standing on timeless truths that will help you

know your worth and embrace your purpose,
build strong, uplifting friendships that you can model for your children,
quit the negative self-talk and make peace with your body, and
learn to mother yourself by resting and setting boundaries。
The world shaping your children is more callous and complex than the world that shaped you。 Kids need to be stronger, smarter, and more rooted in what’s real。 Empower your son or daughter by tending to your heart, soul, body, and mind。 Give them a vision of a healthy adult–and know that as they launch into the real world, they will build on what you started。

I enjoyed this book。 It was encouraging and had some really great insight。 While there wasn’t a lot that i hadn’t heard here and there before, it was great to see it all together—in the same context。 She does a great job of weaving in scripture, and she offers practical thoughts and advise and real and relatable examples。 This was a quick read, and I would recommend it! I wish it had been around when I had little kids!

Is it possible to bookmark more pages than not in a book? It's hard to excuse self-care in a vacuum and it was so encouraging to see how a healthy mom really should be a priority for the family as a whole。 In addition, each chapter also included reflection questions, encouraging the reader to really get involved with her own development and come to peace with the knowledge of her worth。 Filled with love and advice that jumps off the page to give the reader a warm hug and a spiritual boost, this should be on everyone's "buy for myself and a friend" list。 。。。more

Kari Kampakis's More Than a Mom: How Prioritizing Your Wellness Helps You (and Your Family) Thrive has been an incredibly timely read for me。 I don't think I am overstating how exceptional it is when I say that it could truly change a mom's life; and as a result, her family's。 Kari, a mom of four, knows what being a mother asks of us; to love, to serve, to give up sleep, to cram more into days than should be possible。 However, when moms are taking wonderful care of their children or families, so Kari Kampakis's More Than a Mom: How Prioritizing Your Wellness Helps You (and Your Family) Thrive has been an incredibly timely read for me。 I don't think I am overstating how exceptional it is when I say that it could truly change a mom's life; and as a result, her family's。 Kari, a mom of four, knows what being a mother asks of us; to love, to serve, to give up sleep, to cram more into days than should be possible。 However, when moms are taking wonderful care of their children or families, sometimes they're taking horrible care of themselves。 In More Than a Mom: How Prioritizing Your Wellness Helps You (and Your Family) Thrive, Kari outlines ten things moms should and can be aware of as they care for their families; things that can improve their lives, their minds, and their hearts。 These include: knowing their worth; rest; friendships; dealing with stress and anxiety; choosing joy; quitting negative self-talk; making peace with their bodies; feeling capable; embracing our purpose; and living in hope。 I know that these all sound wonderful, and they are! But Kari doesn't leave her readers hanging with lofty-sounding ideals。 Instead, she unpacks each of these with wisdom, humor, kindness, Scripture, and then, the actual ways women can implement them。 I recommend this to you SO highly。 It is a remarkable book that will come alongside you, tired and overwhelmed mom, and help you understand how to make changes that will bring you joy, peace, and rest。 It truly is wonderful。I received a copy of this book from FrontGate Media。 All opinions are honest and my own。 。。。more
